From the ancient homelands
in China, with a fiercely independent culture dating
back to 2000 BC, the Hmong migrated southward from China
into the mountains of Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and
Myanmar (Burma). There were total of 18 clans (last
names): Chang, Cheng, Chue, Fang, Hang, Her, Khang/Kha,
Kong, Kue, Lee/Ly, Lor, Moua, Pha, Thao, Vang, Vue,
Xiong, and Yang.
The staunchest of allies, the Hmong were the best foot
soldiers in the American C.I.A’s secret war in Laos
during the Vietnam War, protecting U.S. interests such
as RADAR site, rescuing the downed American air crews.
The Hmong stood up and fought fiercely with the U.S. to
defend their freedom, democracy, liberty and a homeland.
The price of this battle was a very expensive one that
the Hmong have dearly paid for. They have sacrificed
100% of their lives and hundreds thousand become
widowed, handicapped, and orphans. At the end of the
war, the Hmong had been abandoned by the U.S. when it
withdrew from Southeast Asia in 1975.
